Badluram ka Badan: The fascinating Assam Regiment song and the story behind it

You must have heard many Army regiment marching song that give goosebumps, but there is a famous India Army Regiment song that will surely make you rhyme. Indian Army's Assam Regiment has a marching song -- Badluram ka badan Zameen ke neeche hai -- that is not only melodious but also has an equally inspiring story behind it.

The song is dedicated to a rifleman named Badluram who fought war against the Japanese forces in the World War II.

The lyrics are based on United States marching song Battle Hymn Of The Republic -- John Brown's Body. The original song John Brown's Body was quite popular during the American Civil War.

History behind the song:
During the World War II, Indian Army soldier Badluram died fighting against Japan. At that time, soldiers were entitled to get food ration. After Badluram's death, one officer forgot to report Badluram's death to the Army. As a result, Badluram's ration kept coming and that resulted into a surplus ration for the Army unit. This ration became the ultimately deciding factor between the life and death of the Indian soldiers.

After sometime, Japanese forces surrounded the Indian army and cut off their supplies. But, because of Badluram’s supplies the soldiers could remain alive.
