Badaun gangrape: One constable held, sent to judicial custody

Constable Avnish Yadav was picked up from the railway station around 1 AM by the Special Task Force and local police, Additional Superintendent of Police Rajiv Malhotra said.
Yadav was produced in a court in Badaun which remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days.
While being taken to the court, he told mediapersons that he was innocent.
Malhotra said police were looking for the second accused Veerpal Yadav and expected to nab him soon.
Both the constables have been dismissed from service. The 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped by the two constables at Musajhag Police Station on New Year eve.
Night duty incharge of the police station Himanshu Shukla and Head Constable Udayveer Singh have also been suspended, while Sub-Inspector Sobharan Singh Yadav has been taken off duty.
IG (Law and Order) A Satish Ganesh had told reporters that medical examination of the girl had confirmed the rape.
A financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh was given to family members of the victim from the CM fund.
