BENGALURU: Rajarajeshwari Nagar, a residential locality adjoining the Mysuru Road in south Bengaluru, has been battling garbage and bad roads for a long time. “Garbage is a huge issue. We have been fighting with the BBMP to fix it.The stormwater drain has become a sewage drain. There is also the mosquito menace, thanks to stagnant sewage water,“ said Dr Ravi Prakash, a resident.

Residents point out that lakes such as the Hosakerehalli and Halagevaderahalli need to be maintained in a better fashion. They also pointed out the need for security to walkers along the lake. “Maintenance must be initiated. The lakes must also be kept in good condition even after the work is completed,“ said Niveditha Sunkad, managing trustee, RR Nagar I Care, a nonprofit NGO.

The pathetic condition of roads in close vicinity to The Global Village Tech Park has earned the ire of residents who launched the `No Road, No Vote' Facebook campaign just before the BBMP elections. “The roads are horrible. Our area, which is right behind the Rajarajeshwari temple does not even have motorable roads. There are potholes everywhere. There are snakes in vacant sites,“ said the members of the Kenchanahalli BHEL Layout residents' welfare association.

Erratic power cuts are another major concern for the residents. “There are unscheduled power cuts in the area. It is very irritating,“ said Simon Alfred, a techie.
