Baba Ramdev news: Mayawati, Mulayam condemn Congress for Ramdev attrocities

LUCKNOW: With the national polity divided over pro and anti Baba Ramdev, the two major chieftains of Uttar Pradesh Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati declared their support for the yoga guru turned anti corruption crusader.

The Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh yadav was sharp in his criticism of the Congress and the way they handled the Baba Ramdev agitation in Delhi.

Yadav said that the police action against Baba Ramdev and his supporters was without any reason and provocation. He said that it seemed that the ttheCongress led UPA government had lost all reasoning and adopted to use force on Ramdev and his supporters including women and children.

Taking a pot shot at Congress’ Digvijay Singh he said that Congress leaders should look inwards and instead of calling Ramdev a thug it was the Congress which was full of thugs. He said that the Congress had used central agencies like the CBI against him and several regional leaders but has not been able to see corruption being pepetuated by its leaders.

Yadav also defended the letter, in which the Ramdev camp had assured to call of the agitation, and said that there was nothing wrong in writing the letter and instead the union government should not have released it.

Chief Minister Mayawati also criticised the police action on Baba Ramdev and called for the intervention of the Supreme Court. She said at a party rally in Bangalore that the midnight crackdown on Baba Ramdev was uncalled for and undemocratic.

She said the SC should take note of the police crackdown and issued directions for an inquiry by the National Human Rights commission and the Women’s Commission.

She said that the central government could not be trusted to provide justice and hence the SC should intervene.
