AZAMGARH: Locals today vandalised a community health centre at Hariaya in Raunapar area and indulged in brick-batting after a patient died allegedly due to lack of treatment, a senior official said.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) BV Singh said that one Maniram Patel was brought to the Community Health Centre (CHC) this morning following complaint of stomach ache but no doctor or employee was present there.

Before Patel's family member could arrange an ambulance to shift him to another place, he died near the centre, the CMO said.

When the news spread, local residents attacked the centre and vandalised it, Singh said.

Prima facie three employees, including doctor Manikant Gupta, were found guilty and have been suspended, he said, adding, an inquiry has been ordered in the matter.

If found guilty, criminal cases will also be lodged against them, the CMO said.
