Jan 29, 1885: Mahant Raghubar Das files petition in court of Hari Kishan, sub-judge , Faizabad requesting that he be allowed to build a temple over chabutra Janam Sthan situated in Ayodhya

Dec 24, 1885: Judge Hari Kishan dismisses request

Mar 18, 1886: District judge Colonel FEA Chamier dismisses Das’s appeal to build temple. Later, district judge T E A Chamni also asks for removal and cancellation of remarks of sub-judge declaring the right of property to rest in plaintiff (Raghubar Das)

Nov 1, 1886: Raghubar Das appeals to W Young, officiating judicial commissioner, Oudh

Mar 27, 1934: Communal riot due to cow slaughter during Eid in Shahjahanpur near Ayodhya. Masjid damaged but repaired by a Muslim contractor

1936: Commissioner of waqfs sets up inquiry under UP Muslim Waqfs Act into ownership of property. Inquiry declares that Babri Masjid was build in 1528 by Babar, a Sunni Muslim

Mar 1946: Babri Masjid declared a Sunni mosque

Dec 22-23 , 1949: Idols of dieties appear overnight in structure. District magistrate K K K Nayar in message to CM says: ‘‘ A few Hindus entered Babri Masjid at night when Masjid was deserted and installed a deity there’ ’

Dec 29, 1949: Magistrate M Singh orders that Priya Dutt Ram be appointed receiver of the property and puja can be offered with 3 priests

Jan 19, 1950: Civil judge Bir Singh restrains opposite parties through temporary injunction from removing idols

April 26, 1955: Allahabad HC confirms order of March 3, 1951

Feb 1, 1986: Order passed by district judge for opening locks of Ram janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid and allowing puja

Feb1986: Babri Masjid Action Committee formed

1989: Title suit filed by D N Agarwal as next friend of deity. Suit transferred to HC

Aug 14, 1989: HC passes order to maintain status quo

Nov 9, 1989: Shilanyas performed at site agreed as being undisputed

Oct 19, 1990: Ram janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid Ordinance, 1990 passed to acquire the disputed shrine

Oct 23, 1990: Ordinance withdrawn

Mar 1992: 42.09 acres of land acquired in 1988, 1989 handed over to Nyas

July 23, 1992: SC prohibits construction activity of any kind.

Dec 6, 1992: Babri Masjid attacked and demolished. Idols removed and reinstalled

Sept 29, 2010: Order on the title suit awaited
