Auto and Taxi unions calls for one-day strike on September 2
NEW DELHI: Auto and Taxi unions in the National Capital today threatened to go on a one-day strike on September 2 against the newly-introduced 'City Taxi' scheme by the Delhi government under which small cars will be allowed to ply on the city's roads.

Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh and Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union said that the new scheme will "snatch" the livelihood of the drivers of auto rickshaws and taxis.

Both the associations claimed to have received the support of Anna Hazare's organisation - 'Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Andolan Nyas' - for their strike.

Delhi Auto Rickshaw Sangh's general secretary Rajendra Soni said that auto unions can not compromise with the livelihood of drivers and will go on one-day strike on September 2.

Soni also claimed that taxi unions will join the strike and go off the roads on Wednesday against the 'City Taxi' Scheme.

According to the new scheme, vehicles having capacity of 600 cc onwards can register with the government. Until now, only those vehicles which had capacity of 750 cc or more were issued permits.
