Australia to raise Indo-Sino issues during trilateral talks

MELBOURNE: Australia is expected to discuss strategic issues, including those relating to India and China, as foreign minister Stephen Smith heads for high level talks with his Japanese and the US counterparts.
Smith, who is on a three-day visit to Japan to take part in the Group of Eight (G8) foreign ministers meeting, would attend a trilateral strategic dialogue meeting with the US and Japan.
The three allies will discuss a wide range of issues during the meeting on Friday, which involves Smith, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Koumura.
"It is a good thing for our region, we will discuss global strategic issues, including the rise of China, including the rise of India," Smith was qouted in a report on Thursday.
Smith said it was an important part of the relationship between the three allies.
"I want to talk about Afghanistan and Pakistan, which is obviously a key counter-terrorism where Australia, the United States and Japan all have an interest," he added.
