Australia assures to protect Indian students: Krishna
Expressing concern over recent attack on Indian students in Australia, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said Australian authorities have assured that they will take "stern steps" to provide adequate protection for students.

BANGALORE: Expressing concern over the recent attack on Indian students in Australia, External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Friday said Australian authorities have assured that they will take "stern steps" to provide adequate protection for the students.
On his maiden visit to the city, Krishna, who hails from Karnataka, told media here that he has spoken to his Australian counterpart over the rising incidents of attacks on the Indian students.
"We have been assured by the Australian government. They said that they are going to take stern steps and they have assured us that every student from India will be adequately protected," Krishna said.
The Indian Consul General and High Commissioner have been in touch with the Australian authorities and "they are dealing with the matter seriously," he added.
The 77-year-old Krishna, whose induction into the Union Cabinet was being viewed as an effort by the Congress to revive its sagging image in Karnataka, vowed to work for the development of the state.
Krishna, who arrived here last night to a rousing welcome from Congressmen, hinted that he was likely to visit Bhutan and then Nepal.
