Aus to hold Haneef at his home

SYDNEY: Haneef detained in jail for nearly four weeks in connection with failed British car bombings will be held in home detention after his prison release, an Australian minister said on Friday.

The decision, which came an hour after the country's chief prosecutor dropped terrorism charges against Mohamed Haneef, will allow Haneef to return home while a final decision is made on his immigration status.

"He is free to move about in the community, but as a matter of legal principle ... he is formally in detention," Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews told reporters, 11 days after cancelling Haneef's visa and ordering him detained.
