Attacks on Indians not racist, but opportunistic: Students
VADODARA: Some students from Gujarat, who are residing in Australia, feel that the recent attacks on Indian students in that country are not "racist" but "opportunistic".

"It is dangerous to move in notorious areas in any part of the world during night and Australia cannot be an exception to it. The incidents have taken place in areas which should have been avoided. 95 per cent of attacks on overseas students were opportunistic and not racist," said Chirag Parikh, a city student who has been in Sydney for last two years.

Allegations of racism were being made by those who could not adjust in Australia, he told PTI.

Hamza Arsiwala, whose daughter Lameeya is pursuing higher education in Australia, said his daughter is safe and enjoying her stay in the country.

According to my daughter most of the Indians in Australia are as safe as citizens of any other race and have not experienced racism, said Arsiwala, who recently visited the country.
