Dhubri MP Rukibul Hussain was on Thursday attacked by some unidentified miscreants. His PSO fired at least four rounds as the commotion increased. Hussain, a former minister, was enroute to attend a Congress workers' meeting in Gunabari on his two-wheeler with his supporters when he was attacked with a cricket bat. Two of the PSOs were injured in the attack.
On Friday, Hussain lodged a first information report (FIR) against 22 individuals at Nagaon Sadar police station. He said: "Yesterday, I said I would not lodge a complaint, but I had to do it today. The Superintendent of Police is involved in the attack. This shows how the BJP fears the Congress. I have filed a complaint against 22 individuals," he said.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in X, "Police had identified the individuals involved in the alleged assault on the Congress MP. The identified suspects are Harun of Jamtola, Haresh of Fakoli, Basir of Tamulitup, Kasem Ali of Kawoimari, Rosidul of Kawoimari, Ayub Gunabari, Lutkior of Rail Station, Khaleque of Rowmari, Mojibur of Gorematikhowa and Jahangir of Koachgaon."
"Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Rakibul Hussain today filed a first information report (FIR) alleging an assault that occurred yesterday. However, the MP has so far declined to undergo a medical examination," he posted.
