NEW DELHI: Expelled Samajwadi Party MP Atiq Ahmed on Friday alleged that there was threat to his life from UP Chief Minister Mayawati and it was for this reason that he was not surrendering to the state police.

Ahmed, who is absconding, told media, that the state police would eliminate him once they took him into custody.

"Police could do this on the pretext of the charges levelled by Mayawati against me that there was a threat to her life from me," he said.

Earlier this week, Mayawati accused Congress leaders of conspiring to eliminate her and claimed that they were "patronising" Ahmed whom she dubbed as "mafia".

The expelled Samajwadi Party MP accused Mayawati of using him as an excuse to demand SPG cover for herself.
