BENGALURU: A day after reporting the biggest single-day jump in Covid-19 cases, the number of new positive cases in Karnataka dropped to 7,040 on Sunday, taking the state’s Covid tally to 2,26,966. The state reported 124 Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours.

Over two lakh cases reported so far include 3,947 deaths and 1,41,491 discharges, the health department said. Of the 81,512 active cases, as many as 692 patients are in the intensive care unit.

Bengaluru reported 2,131 cases on Sunday, a marginal decrease compared to the cases registered the previous day. However, Covid deaths mounted in the city, with 49 fatalities on a single day. The number of deaths in Bengaluru was hovering between 15-25 in the last few days.


Bengaluru accounts for 89,811 of the total Covid cases in the state, of which 34,584 are active cases, while 1,444 have died and the remaining have been discharged.

Ballari (14,188) and Mysuru (10,535) account for most cases after Bengaluru Urban.

The state has continued to see an improvement in recoveries, with 6,680 Covid-positive persons getting discharged on Sunday.
