Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls in two phases on April 16 and April 23, chief electoral officer, I V Subba Rao said on Monday.

HYDERABAD: Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls in two phases on April 16 and April 23, chief electoral officer, I V Subba Rao said on Monday.

AP has 294 assembly and 42 Lok Sabha segments. Around 5 crore voters are expected to elect the government in what could be a triangular contest here.

Congress is the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh and its rivals are the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telengana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the newly formed Praja Rajyam Party. The TDP led by former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has forged an alliance with the TRS and Left parties.
