Double delight for Congress: Party takes huge lead in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir Assembly election results

Early trends from the vote count on Tuesday indicated that the Congress party was leading in Haryana, showing a clear advantage over the BJP. Even as counting was underway and trends started emanating in Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana, celebrations began outside the Congress headquarters in Delhi early Tuesday morning. According to TV reports, with trends available from 78 of the 90 seats, Congress was ahead on more than 50 seats—crossing the majority mark of 45—while the BJP was languishing on nearly 20 seats. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) showed a lead in three constituencies, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had not yet made any headway.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini was leading from the Ladwa seat in Kurukshetra district, while Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda held a comfortable lead in the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi constituency in Rohtak district.

BJP leader Anil Vij maintained his lead from the Ambala Cantt seat. Meanwhile, INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala was ahead in the Ellenabad constituency. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala’s son, Aditya Surjewala, was leading from Kaithal.

Congress-NC Alliance Ahead in J&K

In Jammu and Kashmir, the trends from 74 of the 90 seats showed the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance ahead in 39 seats. The BJP was leading in 25 seats, while the People's Democratic Party (PDP) was ahead in six. Three seats were classified under 'others.'

Before the vote count began in Jammu and Kashmir, BJP state unit president Ravinder Raina performed a 'yagya' on Tuesday morning. He expressed confidence that the party would secure a majority and form a government, possibly with support from Independent candidates.

The counting of votes in both Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir began at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. These are early trends, and the final results are subject to change as the count progresses.
