Assam’s NH-37 turns strategic as IAF jets land on Northeast’s first highway airstrip

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Northeast India’s first highway-based Emergency Landing Facility in Moran, Assam, on February 14. Authorities built the 4.2-kilometer dual-use strip on National Highway-37 in Dibrugarh district to enable Indian Air Force fighter and transport aircraft landings during combat or disasters. Rafale, Sukhoi-30 and Tejas jets have conducted successful trial landings. The project enhances rapid air deployment capability and strengthens strategic preparedness near the China border.
