Assam violence and exodus: S K Modi blames Congress

The explosive situation in Assam at present has been caused by the failure to contain illegal migration from across the border, he told.

PATNA: Blaming ruling Congress in Assam and the Centre for failing to prevent violence in the state and the mass exodus of people of northeast from across the country due to fears sparked by rumours, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister S K Modi today said the strife should not be politicised.

The explosive situation in Assam at present has been caused by the failure to contain illegal migration from across the border and the strife is due to conflict between tribal Bodos and illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and not a communal clash between Hindus and Muslims, he told newsmen here.

"The Bodo natives are gripped with insecurity due to illegal migration from Bangladesh," he said adding successive governments in Assam had failed to prevent infiltration over the years despite occurrence of similar violence in the past.

Modi said Bihar government has taken security measures to ensure security and safety of the north east people in trains returning to their home states.
