Assam to soon have ITI for the differently abled

GUWAHATI: Assam is setting up an industrial training institute ( ITI) for the differently abled.

The foundation stone for the proposed Rs 5.5-crore institute was laid recently by state Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

“The ITI will have 60 seats for three different trades, with 20 seats per trade as per prescribed guidelines of the National Council for Vocational Training,” the state government said. “The trades will include computer operator and programming assistant, cutting and sewing technology, and hair and skin care. There will be separate hostel facilities for boys and girls within the campus.”

At the foundation laying ceremony, Sonowal said a budget provision of Rs 250 crore has been made to provide a one-time financial assistance to 450,000 ‘dibyangans’ of the state in 2017-18.

“The ITI for the dibyangans shows our commitment to empower the weakest of the weak of the society”, Sonowal said.

The chief minister said more trades will be added in the ITI curriculum and seat capacity will be augmented in the near future.
