Assam to reopen elementary schools from January 1

In November, formal classes started for the students of class 6 and above. Classes 6, 7,9 and 12 had classroom teachings on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of every week while classes 8, 10 and 11 will had classes on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

GUWAHATI: Assam government has announced that elementary schools in the state which were closed due to COVID-19 will be reopened from January 1 next year.

Assam health and education minister Himanta Biswa sarma said that COVID-19 situation is under control. He said that the college hostels will reopen from December 15 with limitations.

In November, formal classes started for the students of class 6 and above. Classes 6, 7,9 and 12 had classroom teachings on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of every week while classes 8, 10 and 11 will had classes on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.


The health minister said that Assam has so far registered a total of 2,12,617 Covid-19 cases out of which 2,08,283 have recovered from the disease. Around 981 people have died due to Covid-19 in Assam.

Sarma said that as the situation has improved temporary Covid care centres, which were set up to accommodate the positive patients, have been closed.
