Assam to be the focal point of India’s Act East policy: Prime Minister Narendra Modi

GUWAHATI: Prime minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that Assam will be the focal point of India’s Act East policy. Act East policy is India’s policy for engagement with its neighbouring countries.

Modi who was in Guwahati to attend the swearing in of new chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Assam is important for India’s act east policy. Northeast India development is closely linked to Assam developments."

He said that development in Eastern India states including Bihar, Northeast India, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, West Bengal and Jharkhand will take the country to new heights of economic development.

Modi had done over 15 rallies during the electioneering in Assam in assembly polls, BJP along with its allies registered landslide victory. Modi said, “We believe in co-operative federalism and competitive federalism. We will hand hold states and march shoulder to shoulder.”

The prime minister assured that Assam will not face dearth of anything and will get full support from the Centre. "Assam is the repository rich cultural heritage. The new chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is straight, simple and charming."

Modi said, “ We take pride on Sonowal, while in ministry he has several achievements. People of Assam has voted BJP to power for fulfilling the dream of development.”
