GUWAHATI: Assam education minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said state government will table a legislation which will bar transfer and posting of teachers for 10 years. Those who recommend and approve any such transfer will be punished with three years’ imprisonment.

Sarma in state assembly said, “The state government will table a bill whereby once a teacher is appointed in a district, he has to stay for 10 years. There will be no transfer or posting during the period. Anyone recommending or approving such transfer will have to face imprisonment for three years.”

He added, “All transfers made in the last three years will be annulled and those who got transferred will have to go the original place of posting. A committee will be constituted which will look into special cases, like a particular person is Divyangjan or forced to leave a place under duress.”

Sarma who is also the health minister said that from April this year doctors of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will not be allowed to do private practice. “The doctors here will paid as per the pay structure of AIIMS. Similarly since GMCH is coming up with a super specialty department, we will invite doctors from across the country to join the same and the doctors will be paid according to the pay structure of Max hospital.”
