Assam to aggressively promote brand entity "Awesome Assam"

GUWAHATI: Assam will aggressively promote the new brand entity of “Awesome Assam”. Minister for Tourism Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday launched the new Logo of Assam Tourism.

Sarma said that tourism campaign should not be confined alone within the State but should be visible outside the State as well. The government will promote tourism as an industry, he said.

The BJP-led government has pumped in Rs 15 crore to carry out a publicity blitzkrieg on Assam tourism. Sarma said, "Young foreign tourists are keen on visiting Assam and see the tea gardens where their forefathers use to work at one point of time."

To promote home stay, the government will construct 500 to 700 houses, Sarma said. "We will also rope in film producers for shooting in Assam and for this a single-window clearance mechanism will be put in place."

The minister added that Rs 33 crore has been sanctioned for the development of the infrastructure of Shaktipeeth Kamakhya temple. "Under Swadesh Darshan Scheme, the Government of India has also allocated Rs 120 crore for 5 national parks of the state," he said.
