Assam speaker wants change in the timing of the assembly session

With the change in government in Assam, Speaker Ranjit Das has mooted a proposal changing the timing of state assembly.

GUWAHATI: With the change in government in Assam, Speaker Ranjit Das has mooted a proposal changing the timing of state assembly.

The proposal of starting the assembly session on 9.30 am instead of 9 am has been cleared by the rules committee and is expected to be become operational by next week.

Das said that the house normally gets over by 1.30pm however there is a proposal to increase it to 2pm. “This is make up for the half an hour advancement of timing.”

Das added, “The timing of 9am is bit inconvenient for it becomes too early. This causes hardships in the winters. The matter will be placed in the assembly on Tuesday.”

For last 20 years there has been no change in the timing of the assembly.

Das said, "For Friday, the morning session of the House will be from 9:30 am to 11:30 and the evening session will be from 3 pm to 5 pm."

He added, " It is change which assembly wants to initiate following change in government."
