Assam reports eight new positive cases of coronavirus

Guwahati: Assam on Thursday reported eight new positive cases of coronavirus.

Health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma in couple of tweets stated, “Alert ~ 4 persons in Guwahati test #COVID19 + One of them have come from outside Assam, and is in home quarantine,while 3 are from Guwahati. #COVID19 patients in Assam now stand at 53. Active cases 18 Discharged 34 Death 1

In another tweet he said, “Alert ~ 4 persons, who took the same bus from Rajasthan in which the Cachar dist #COVID19 + person travelled, have tested positive too”.


Sarma said that Deputy Commissioner of Ajmer in Rajasthan has issued pass to a group of 42 persons to come to Assam and one person among those who came has tested positive.

Sarma said that in a matter of concern, the deputy commissioner of Ajmer without seeking permission from Assam send a bus with 42 people (35 adult and 8 children). “The bus arrived in Silchar in Barak valley, one person was tested positive for COVID-19. This particular person had visited Ajmer Sharif and has several cases pending against him.”

The health minister said that after Nizaumddin Markaz in New Delhi, Ajmer Sharif episode has become a matter of concern for Assam. “While these people are quarantined, we have decided we will allow only certain number of people to enter Assam in a day from outside the region.”
