Assam polls: How 25,000 RSS men made the difference to BJP's campaign

GUWAHATI: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ( RSS) worked hand in hand with BJP to help it register the biggest victory in east India.

RSS cadres fanned out in Upper, Central and Northern Assam to take on the strong Congress organisational base.

A senior RSS functionary told ET: "Around 20,000 to 25,000 cadres worked for BJP. They organised voter awareness camps and ensured that people come out to vote for change. RSS also targeted the 10 lakh new voters and managed to pull them towards BJP."

The leader added, "our education programme in the tea estates has ensured that we get the backing of tea tribes and other tribal communities."

The leader said, "For last several years, different affiliates of Sangh Parivar have worked to stop illegal cattle trade. We campaigned that the identity of local people is in danger and this election is make or mar battle. Hindu votes consolidated in favour of BJP."
