Assam Police issues Look Out circular against two persons in connection with cops-job scam

Guwahati: Assam Police has issued a Look Out circular against two persons in connection with a cops-job scam.

Two persons against whom the lookout notice is issued include former DIG of Assam police P. K Dutta and a leader of BJP Diban Deka, he unsuccessfully contested in 2011 from Barkhetri assembly constituency.

Police are also planning to announce a cash reward for providing information leading to the arrest of these two persons.


Question paper was leaked of the Sub-Inspector recruitment exams that were cancelled on September 20 and this has created flutters in the state. Around 60,000 candidates applied for the exam however it was cancelled minutes after it began as the question paper was already leaked in the social media.

Dutta is presently an hotelier in Guwahati and incriminating evidence was recovered from his properties in Guwahati. Deka was found connected to mock tests with real question papers prior to the examination.

Surendra Kumar, IGP of Crime Investigation department of the state police said, “Police have found five money receipts to applicants in the exam, a flex sheet with advertisements of the exams, 445 blank admission forms and advertisement brochures in English and Assamese language for training the exams.”

He added, “Police found Rs 5.45 lakh from one of the hotels. A pistol and 40 rounds of ammunition have also been recovered from one of the hotels owned by Dutta whose gun license had expired in March this year”.

Police said that disproportionate property and money has been amassed by Dutta. Kumar said that the police are working closely with the income tax department to look into it.

Around 19 persons have been arrested in connection with crime. Pradip Kumar, chairman of the State Level Police Recruitment Board on Sunday resigned from his post.

The exams have been rescheduled to be held on October 25.

Assam chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal recently referring to the recent incident of leak of question paper of recruitment examination for Sub-Inspector in Assam Police assured that all culprits would be brought to book. He said that investigation to unearth the nexus that conspired to spoil the recruitment process is on and those who were involved would not be allowed to go unpunished.

Congress demanded inquiry by a sitting judge of the Gauhati High Court.
