Assam police discharges Md. Sona Ullah from service

Sona Ullah after his retirement from army was serving as a sub inspector in border branch of Assam police.

Guwahati: Assam police has discharged from service Md. Sona Ullah following his being sent to detention camp after a Foreigners’ Tribunal in Assam declared him as a foreigner.

Sona Ullah, after his retirement from army, was serving as a sub inspector in border branch of Assam police. The border branch is responsible for detection of foreigners in Assam.

Sona Ullah was junior commissioned officer of Indian army.He joined Indian Army in 1987 and served for three decades before he was retired as a Honourary Captain in 2017.


A senior official in Assam police who not want to be named told ET, “Md. Sona Ullah was discharged from service and is derived from all the facilities as government servant with reference to order of the Foreigners’ Tribunal that declared him as a foreign national of post 25-03- 1971.”

Family members of the Sona Ullah have approached the Gauhati High court contesting the order of foreigners tribunal. “We have filed a petition challenging the order passed by Foreigners’ Tribunal on Friday,” said Sona Ullah’s counsel, Advocate Sahidul Islam.
