Assam on alert following threat from anti-talk ULFA militants

GUWAHATI: Alert has been sounded in Assam following threat emanating from militant outfit. Intelligence inputs suggest that anti-talk ULFA militants is looking to strike.

Home commissioner, G.D Tripathy told ET, "Security arrangement of oil pipelines, refineries, railway tracks and railway trains were reviewed."

It was decided to tighten the security arrangements of all the railway tracks and other installations by deployment of additional forces. Outlawed anti talk faction of ULFA militants under the elusive commander in chief, Paresh Baruah is planning to carryout series of explosions in Guwahati.

Already the state has seen two explosions, one in Doom Dooma town and other in Guwahati. The Guwahati blast killed one CRPF personnel.

Sources in intelligence agencies told ET, "Hardliner ULFA is looking to carryout strikes in Guwahati. Security forces have in past thwarted ULFA's plan however the outfit is now using hired people to carry out explosions."

Sources said the target of the anti talk ULFA attacks is security forces and Hindi speaking people. "A senior leader of the outfit is entrusted with the task of carrying out subversive activities."

Tripathy round the clock patrolling will done on railway tracks.
