Assam not to be allowed to be part of Bangladesh: Gogoi

"We will never allow Assam to turn into Bangladesh as claimed by Praveen Togadia. We all will fight against any move to make Assam a part of Bangladesh,"Gogoi said.

GUWAHATI: Assam would never be allowed to be a part of Bangladesh and that the interests of the people of the state would be looked after, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said.

Gogoi's comment followed VHP international general secretary Praveen Togadia's assertion yesterday that Assam would soon be a part of greater Bangladesh if people did not start a democratic movement to free it from encroachment by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.

"We will never allow Assam to turn into Bangladesh as claimed by Praveen Togadia. We all will fight against any move to make Assam a part of Bangladesh," Gogoi said at a function to launch a book on him here.

Asserting he was a secularist, Gogoi said he wanted people of all religions to fight against illegal foreigners.
