GUWAHATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government in Assam has decided to withhold counter insurgency operation against militant Karbi Peoples’ Liberation Tiger (KPLT).

KPLT had earlier declared unilateral ceasefire for a period of six months, from 20th October, 2016 till 20th April, 2017, which it communicated through a letter signed by Vojaru Hanjang, General Secretary of KPLT.

The outfit also expressed its desire to come to the main stream in the interest of restoring peace and all round development in Karbi Anglong.

Assam government in statement hoped that all the group members along with the weapons retained by them, will come forward to the main stream at the earliest, so that the strength of the organisation can be fruitfully channelized to the productive purpose for the all round development of Assam in general and Karbi Anglong in particular.

Assam government agreed to withhold counter insurgency operations by the Security Forces against KPLT till April 20, 2017 as a mark of good gesture to the members of the outfit to enable them to come to the main stream. (eom)
