He said the government is considering legislation to give land rights to tea garden workers, among others. The government will inform the people about this as and when decisions are taken in the Cabinet, he said. These were part of the government's initiative to empower communities and safeguard the social and cultural fabric of the state.
Asked about the government's campaign on Zubeen Garg, he said a section of people were trying to use Zubeen's death as a political tool. "Some people who had not even listened to a single song of Zubeen Garg their entire life have turned fans of the iconic singer overnight. This is most unfortunate. Some people are trying to create disturbance in the state ahead of the elections. We are not letting this happen," he said, adding that the government has launched the campaign 'Moiu Zubeen, Amiu Zubeen' from Nalbari on Wednesday to organise genuine Zubeen fans to stop the conspiracy to destabilise Assam.
Zubeen died under mysterious circumstances in Singapore on September 19. Protests are being held in the state, demanding justice for Zubeen.
