Assam govt files a case against a COVID 19 positive patient for hiding his travel history

GUWAHATI: Assam government has filed a case against a COVID 19 positive patient for hiding his travel history despite repeated request and query from the doctors.

Health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The person had visited Tablighi Jamaat Markaz in Delhi's Nizamuddin West and failed to self-declare despite repeated declaration from the government.”

He said, “This person has visited as many as three hospitals and despite repeated query from doctors this person concealed his travel history. For this act some doctors had to go to quarantine for he was tested positive.”


On April 6 state government had decided to file case of willful disobedience under the Disaster Management Act (DMA), against those attendees who visited Tablighi Jamaat Markaz in Delhi's Nizamuddin West and failed to self-declare. The government had set a deadline for them to self-declare.

Assam has 29 cases of COVID-19 positive cases out of which 28 had a travel history of visiting Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin in New Delhi. One patient has died.

Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur had reported one case each with history of traveling to Tablighi Jamaat.

Across Northeast India there is 35 cases COVID 19 out of which Manipur and Tripura had two cases each while Mizoram had one case.
