Assam Governor P B Acharya expresses concern over slow enrollment in NRC

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor P B Acharya has expressed concern over the slow ongoing National Register of Citizens (NRC) enrollment in the state.

In a press release here today, Acharya has appealed to all Indian citizens to expedite and without fail complete the application process for NRC before the last date August 31.

The Governor said, "no Indian citizen will be left out of the NRC for any reasons. All Tea Tribes, Bengali Hindu refugees, orphanage inhabitants, jailed prisoners, Indians from neighbouring states especially from Tripura, Indians from other states of our mainland who have migrated to Assam by marriage, jobs, business, etc. are eligible to enter in the NRC as per the Supreme Court judgment".

Recently the Governor had called State-Coordinator, NRC, Assam Pratik Hajela and discussed about the progress and hindrances in the NRC updation process, the Raj Bhavan release said.

"The Governor ordered that no foreigners should be allowed to get into the NRC, either because of corrupt officials giving false birth certificates or by any fraud", the release said.

Acharya stressed that all our NRC Seva Kendras should be very careful and not come under any pressure or fear.

"The integrity and security of not only the North East, but of India is very important and the patriotic citizens of Assam should take special care in this regard", he said.

All Political Parties, Student Organizations, Universities, Sahitya Sabhas, Merchant Chambers, NGOs, Tribal and Non-tribal social organizations should be in the forefront to assist and correctly complete the NRC process by August 31, he appealed.
