GUWAHATI: The Assam government will launch a massive direct beneficiary transfer (DBT) scheme where it will transfer Rs 830 per month to 19.7 lakh families. The beneficiary of this scheme will be only women.

Targeting at least 15,000 to 17,000 beneficiaries in each constituency, “ Orunodoi” scheme proposes to alleviate the financial problem of the improvised families through substantial income support.

Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government will provide monthly financial assistance to eligible beneficiaries for procuring medicines, pulses and sugar. “In years ahead the government plans to scale up the scheme by including components from other schemes. To avail this scheme composite household income of the applicant should be less than Rs 2 lakh per annum.”


Sarma said under the scheme government will spend Rs 210 crore per month, “This is Assam’s largest DBT scheme. Three volunteers in each area will assist in identifying the beneficiary. This scheme will provide relief to families facing hardship to COVID-19 pandemic. Beneficiary identification will start from August 17 onwards. ”

State government plans to scale up the number of beneficiaries to 25 lakh.
