Assam government postpones Indo-Bangladesh stakeholders'meet following the deluge

GUWAHATI: Following devastating flood affecting 30 districts of Assam, state government has postponed the Indo-Bangladesh Stakeholders’ Meet that was scheduled to be held in Guwahati on the 19th and 20th July, 2019.

In an official communique state government stated, “In view of the devastating floods in Assam, the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been constrained to consider postponing the Indo-Bangladesh Stakeholders’ Meet that was scheduled to be held in Guwahati on the 19th and 20th July, 2019, to a more feasible time – most likely around October–November this year. The rescheduled dates shall be communicated as soon as they are finalized”.

The statement stated, “Inconvenience that might have been caused as a result of this postponement is regretted. Your support to this endeavour has been invaluable, and the same is expected when the event will be organized on the rescheduled dates.”


As on 15th July 2019, total 4,157 number of villages in 113 revenue circles of 30 Districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Udalguri, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sivsagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Cachar, Karbi Anglong, Hailakandi, Karimganj of Assam have been affected in the flood.

Approximately 42, 86,421 people have been affected. Presently, 183 numbers of Relief Camps are operational with 83,180 inmates. Flood and landslide has killed 15 people across the state.

In the stakeholders meet Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal and Minister of Commerce, Government of Bangladesh, Tipu Munshi; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Government of Bangladesh, Dr. AK Abdul Momen; Adviser to Prime Minister, Bangladesh, International Affairs, Gowher Rizvi were expected to participate.
