Assam government express desire to purchase Bhupen Hazarika’s House at Kolkata
Assam government has initiated discussion with Dangi and conveyed State Government’s keen interest in taking the ownership of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s house.

Assam Minister of State for Cultural Affairs Naba Kimar Doley and Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami a held a negotiation with the owner of the house Sushil Kumar Dangi.
Assam government has initiated discussion with Dangi and conveyed State Government’s keen interest in taking the ownership of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s house where the music maestro lived in mid 1950’s before shifting base to Mumbai.
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s house in Kolkata from where he created many of his master-pieces is also associated with the emotions of the people of Assam. Showing respect to the emotions of the people of Assam, the state government under the directions of the Chief Minister has taken initiative to claim the ownership of the house to make it a cultural centre, informed the two member delegation.
According to state government the discussion was held in a very congenial atmosphere as the present owner Dangi responded positively and assured to look into the matter.
