Assam government asks Tata Institute of Social Science to suggest remedial measures to stop crime against women

Assam government will engage Tata Institute of Social Sciences to study and suggest remedial measures for growing crime against women in Assam.

GUWAHATI: Assam government will engage Tata Institute of Social Sciences ( TISS) to study and suggest remedial measures for growing crime against women in Assam.

According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) the rate of violent crimes in Assam was the third highest in the country. Assam is next to Kerala and Delhi in crime index. The NCRB in its report Crime in India 2011, released on June 31, has said that the rate of violent crimes in Assam was 36.6, higher than the national average of 21.2.

Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday said, "We have asked the TISS to study as why the incidence of crime against women in Assam is increasing and what measures needs to be initiated."

Guwahati will soon have a commissioner of police. The chief minister said that very soon Guwahati will be brought under police commissioner.
