Assam: Former minister Siddeque Ahmed sent to judicial custody

Siddeque was dropped last year from the cabinet following his rebellion against Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi.

Assam: Former minister Siddeque Ahmed sent to judicial custody
GUWAHATI: In a major embarrassment for ruling congress in Assam, two of its legislators are arrested in little over 15 days.

While MLA Rumi Nath was arrested for her alleged connection with car theft racket, former minister and Congress legislator SiddequeAhmed was sent to 7 days judicial custody by a local court for not complying with summon on Thursday.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate of Karimganj district has earlier issued summon against Ahmed in a assault case. Ahmed had assault case registered against his name in 2011.

Police had to resort to baton charge as supporters of Siddeque prevented the police from arresting him. Siddeque was dropped last year from the cabinet following his rebellion against Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi.
