Assam floods: Brahmaputra embankment breached at 63 points

One breach occurred on Brahmaputra dyke at Sonowal Kacharigaon in the world's largest inhabited river island Majuli.

NEW DELHI: Some of the major embankments of Brahmaputra and its tributaries were breached at 63 locations during the recent floods in Assam.

This was stated by Minister of State in the Water Resources ministry Vincent Pala in the Rajya Sabha today.

"Some of the major embankments of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries were breached at 63 locations during the floods of June and July in Assam," he said.

Pala said one breach occurred on Brahmaputra dyke at Sonowal Kacharigaon in the world's largest inhabited river island Majuli.
