Sarma said that the Cabinet has asked the State Home and Political Department to submit the formal investigation report regarding the case before the Cabinet on February 7.
He said that the Cabinet has also authorized the Chief Minister to make the investigation report public through a press conference on February 8.
The Chief Minister has, however, said that the Cabinet has authorized the Chief Minister to make the report public ‘to the extent possible’.
The Chief Minister said that Gaurav Gogoi is directly linked to the case. “The SIT report has indicated that three persons are direct linked to Pakistan—Ali Tauqueer Sheikh, the MP’s wife Elizabeth Gogoi, and Gaurav Gogoi. The SIT gave a presentation and the cabinet members are shocked to see the presentation.
He said that the SIT report would be made public through the media during a press conference on February 8.
The Assam police had had instituted an SIT to inquire into the activities of Pakistan based climate activist Ali Tauqeer Sheikh in February last year.
The Assam Chief Minister and the BJP had also alleged connection between Pakistan based climate policy activist and Elizabeth Gogoi, a British national who is wife of Congress Lok Sabha MP from Assam Gaurav Gogoi.
The Assam Chief Minister had earlier stated that the SIT probe has unearthed involvement of Elizabeth Gogoi, a British national and wife of Gaurav Gogoi, in the larger nefarious activities of Ali Tauqeer Sheikh.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the Assam Police to probe the alleged links of MP Gaurav Gogoi with Pakistan, formally submitted its report to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on on September 10 last year.
He had earlier stated that during the course of this exhaustive investigation, the SIT has unearthed startling facts which point towards a larger conspiracy aimed at undermining the sovereignty of our nation.
