GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today reviewed the status of projects of the Soil Conservation Department with officials, asking them to put in their best performance to benefit people.

At the meeting, Gogoi asked the officials to come up with good performances that would help mitigate the problems of poverty, unemployment and in raising the income level of the people.

"Rewards will be given to those who deliver good performances. Strict action will be taken against those for dereliction of duty," he warned.

The Soil Conservation Department has a pivotal role to play in containing erosion, preserving the soil nutrients vital for raising agricultural production and in irrigation, Gogoi said.

The chief minister advocated for convergence of schemes between the Soil Conservation, Agriculture and Irrigation Departments for better outcome.

Asking the department to hold regular review meetings to keep a close tab on the implementation of schemes and projects at the field level, Gogoi directed the officers to put up the list of beneficiaries on its website as well as in newspapers.

Gogoi also assured to look into the problems of the department and initiate necessary steps accordingly.

Soil Conservation Minister Chandan Sarkar asked the officials to come up with good schemes and to focus on creation of permanent assets.
