Assam CM Sonowal asks social media volunteers to reach out to people

GUWAHATI: While protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) continue, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal recently asked social media volunteers to reach out to people to spread awareness on state government schemes.

BJP is said to be refurbishing its social media team for the 2021 assembly polls.

In a series of tweets, Sonowal said, “Through Vijay Sankalp 2021, we reiterate our commitment to take the state towards greater heights of prosperity and development under the visionary leadership of PM Shri @narendramodiji… Interacted with dedicated social media karyakartas of @BJP4Assam in Guwahati. Urged them to disseminate information on various initiatives and schemes of the Govt to counter misinformation propagated by anti-social elements.”


State finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also tweeted, “I thank all social media volunteers of @ BJP4Assam for your spirited participation. Together we pledge to take the party to new heights. Our Vijoy Sankalp 2021 is a reiteration of our commitment to continued prosperity of Assam as per vision of PM Sri @narendramodi.”

Meanwhile, All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu) protested in Sonowal’s home district Dibrugarh on Tuesday. There was a meeting in Tezpur while artistes met in Khumtai to protest against the CAA. Earlier in the day, central organising secretary of Lachit Sena, Shrinkhal Chaliha, was arrested by the police in Dibrugarh. Chaliha was produced in the court and has been sent to police custody, said officials. BJP will hold peace procession in Jagiroad, where the party is expecting a massive turnout, on Friday. The party plans to hold similar programmes in Biswanath, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji.

Sonowal has started reaching out to different student organisations. He met the representatives of All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union and Tai Ahom Coordination Committee on Monday. He met a delegation of All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) on Tuesday.
