Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal in Delhi as state protests

Sonowal is reportedly going to meet Union Minister Rajnath Singh and discuss issues arising out of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Assam.
GUWAHATI: Amid protests in Assam over the Citizenship Bill, CM Sarbananda Sonowal is camping in New Delhi to meet home minister Rajnath Singh.

A senior state government official said: “The CM is likely to discuss the situation arising out of the visit of JPC on the bill early this month.”

He said the meeting will also take stock of the progress on draft NRC, adding Assam will seek additional central forces ahead of the NRC publication. Assam’s principal home secretary LS Changsan and DGP Kuladhar Saikia also met MHA officials in New Delhi on Tuesday.
