The Congress has released its first list of 42 candidates, which includes APCC President Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of Opposition of Assam Debabrata Saikia, and others.
"If you look at the Congress' list of candidates, it is a reflection of dynastic politics. The list includes Gaurav Gogoi, son of former Chief Minister the late Tarun Gogoi; Debabrata Saikia, son of former Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia; Prateek Bardoloi, son of Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bardoloi; Tanzil Hussain, son of Lok Sabha MP Rakibul Hussain; and many more," said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
He also drew a parallel between the Congress' list and the BJP's list for Rajya Sabha elections and said that, against the dynastic politics of Congress, the BJP list includes commoners like Terash Gowala and Jogen Mahan, who come from humble backgrounds.
He said that this is the difference between the political ideologies of the Congress and the BJP. "While the Congress always prioritised dynastic politics, the BJP always gives importance to people from humble backgrounds or common people," Sarma said, adding that the BJP's list of candidates will mostly consist of candidates from humble backgrounds.
