Assam Chief Minister initiates plantation drive under Carbon Neutrality Project

Sonowal, while congratulating the people of Majuli, requested them to extend their cooperation for making the project a success. He also said that the success of the project will also be crucial for achieving zero carbon status of Majuli.

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal initiated a plantation drive under Carbon Neutrality Project at Kamalabari Ghat in Majuli.

The project is a first of its kind in the county, and is believed to be an important step towards a zero-carbon district, which is being given shape under discretionary grant by Chief Minister Assam for 2019-20.

Under the project, 1100 plants which can survive the onslaught of floods have been planted.


Sonowal, while congratulating the people of Majuli, requested them to extend their cooperation for making the project a success. He also said that the success of the project will also be crucial for achieving zero carbon status of Majuli.

Sonowal also visited the erosion affected areas of Kamalabari Ghat and took stock of erosion mitigation and protection works of the district administration.
