In the March-April polls to the 126-member Assam Assembly, the BJP had secured 60 seats.
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday that he will expand his council of ministers on June 9.

This will be the first expansion of the one-year-old Himanta Biswa Sarma led government in Assam. Sarma told media persons, “There will be a minor induction with one minister from KarbiAnglong will be inducted in the council of ministers on June 9.”

Presently four berths are vacant in the council of ministers. A senior BJP leader said, “The performance of ministers is assessed. There might be minor changes in the council of ministers. Re-elected MLA Phanidhar Talukdar, Rupjyoti Kurmi and Sushanta Borgohain are in the race for inclusion in the council of ministers.”


Last year the chief minister hinted at reshuffle only after completion of one year. The BJP led government in Assam romped back to power for a second consecutive term last year.

In the March-April polls to the 126-member Assam Assembly, the BJP had secured 60 seats. With by polls win BJP’s tally in the state assembly had gone to 63.
