The international centre will have trade advisers office from different countries. Already Bangladesh government has an office in Guwahati.

Assam cabinet approves land for setting up International Trade Centre in Guwahati
GUWAHATI: Assam government has decided to come up with International Trade Centre in Guwahati.

State cabinet has approved land for centre which will have twin towers with 65 storeys.

Assam industry minister, Assam industry minister, Chandra Mohan Patwary said, “Request for proposal for construction of world trade center will be floated soon, we are seeking international players for this project. Despite being South East Asian neighbours being our closest landmass, we have to spend considerable time and money in getting different papers in New Delhi in order to visit or do business with these countries. The world trade Center will bring all these offices here.”

The international centre will have trade advisers office from different countries. Already Bangladesh government has an office in Guwahati. Bhutan has applied to government of India for opening consulate office in Guwahati.


A senior official in Assam government said, “Government of India has cleared the proposal of setting up consulate office in Guwahati. The centre will offer facilities in the lines of India Habitat Centre of New Delhi. The centre will meet the international security norms for foreign delegates and offices.”

Patwary said, “We need have better trade ties with with neighbours. The population of Bangladesh is 15 Crores while of ASEAN is 6 Crore, it is a big market for us.”
