The BJP has fielded former Nagaon district commissioner Devasish Sharma, who took voluntary retirement earlier this month, for the October 6 byelection to the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat.
Guwahati: The BJP fielded Devasish Sharma, the IAS officer who took voluntary retirement earlier this month from government service, as its candidate for the byelection to the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam. Sharma was the district commissioner for Nagaon.

He formally retired on September 3 after the government accepted his request. In the byelection, scheduled for October 6, he is pitted against Rejaul Karim Sarkar of the All-India United Democratic Front and Trinamool Congress candidate and Dhing College vice-principal Prof Abdul Salam.
