Assam blasts toll rises to 84

Three more people have succumbed to their injuries.

GUWAHATI: The death toll in the October 30 serial blasts on Monday rose to 84 with three more people succumbing to their injuries, official sources said.

Two persons died at the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre (GNRC) today while another person succumbed to his injuries at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital yesterday.

The devastating blasts had claimed 66 lives and injured more than 470 people on the day of the blast.

Meanwhile, ten of the injured were released from Mahendra Mohan Choudhury with the Assam government making an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50,000 to them.

The state government had announced a compensation of Rs three lakh to the next of kin of those deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit here on November one, had announced a central assistance of Rs four lakh to the family members of those killed and Rs one lakh to the injured.
